It was on the highest peak of Naxos island that Zeus is said to have claimed his thunderbolt from an eagle and used it take his place among the Olympian Gods. Today that peak is called the “Nose of Za” after Zeus. His son Dionysus, god of wine, was Born here, and the Island’s wine is said to be like divine nectar. possibly because of Dionysus love for the princess Ariadne who was abandoned on Naxos after helping Theseus slay the Minataur.

The mountains of Michoacán are the primary wintering site for Monarch butterflies; millions stop to rest and breed here, protected by a 13,000-hectare UNESCO biosphere reserve. Each year, the Monarch butterflies make an incredibe eight month journey that takes them across North America to Canada and back. During that time four successive generations are born and die. How they find their way back to their overwintering site remains a mystery.

Michoacán’s reserve is a critical location for endangered monarch conservation efforts; a place where the butterflies cluster in rugged, mountainous forests, painting the trees orange and often bending branches with their weight. They symbolize the transformation of the soul and more - which we’ll explore through sacred sound and mindful movement.
